we will be talking about and using behavioral learning objectives, following the ABCD model. Even if you are familiar with another model, please use this one so we are all speaking the same language, as it were.

Week 10 Experiences

Final Experience

Building Teaching Skills Through Interactive web (webskills) 2013 which was started on 7th October 2013 to 13th December 2013.The course was 10 week long. I was concerned about finding some ways to solve some of the problems I am facing in my class. The countries like Nepal are now emerging to use technology in education. There are too many discussions about computers and internet. Most of the Nepali teachers are still computer illiterate since using technology is expensive for us. It has not been established as our need, it is luxury for many people. Until it becomes our compulsory teaching tool, there is no possibility of technology development and won’t be used in the schools. At least some changes have been made, many of our schools have 1 0r 2 computers for official use. Some of them have internet connection and some are looking the way to connections. The government is aware to offer the computer education to the pupils of the nation and recently computer subject has been added to the course of class 6 that will be upgraded every year in upper classes. It is a hopeful symptom about technology that its demand is increasing.

In this context, I got the chance to take this course. I must express my gratitude to the University of Oregon USA for this golden opportunity which directly helped not only my professional development but also whole district and neighboring schools and teachers to adopt technology in learning.

This course provided me opportunity to meet and get to know with 25 language teachers from around the world with whom we shared our experiences. We discussed the topic and expressed our views in a fully autonomous environment within clearly designed and guided lessons by an expert instructor. We very much enjoyed the 21st century learning style and evaluation system using technology.

We started our task creating an Academic Blog that is one of the technology tools in which we have reflected our weekly experiences. There is nice net to discuss and acts as class. We discussed about Self-introductions ground rules for discussions; and rubrics. Some of the topics that we learned during the course are as follow:

  • ·        We learned to write objectives in ABCD model.

  • ·        We   created and used delicious page to save links.

  • ·        Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL)

  • ·        Rubric, Assessments, Project Based Learning ( PBL ) and Webquest

  • ·        Engaging students in large class.

  • ·         Interactive Classes or PowerPoint.

  • ·        Learner Autonomy, The One Computer Class and use of Mobile devices.

  • ·        Learning styles and multiple intelligence.

  • ·        Project ( a teaching plan using technology.)

Week 9 Experiences

Week 9 Experiences

Discussion: Learning styles

===============  ===============  ===============
·        Week 9 passed, thanks for that. This week was memorable for me in many ways. I was just started to click the link tech tools that support multiple intelligences http://eduscapes.com/tap/topic68.htm  my place plunged in darkness due to electricity problems. The problem is still the same . My computer has stopped working and has not been recovered till now. In spite of many obstacles, I could participate the class.
·        The reading resources this week were effective with and without technology. I read the articles identified by Howard Gardner about 9 intelligences that support classroom activities.
  1. Verbal-Linguistic
  2. Logical/Mathematical
  3. Visual/Spatial
  4. Bodily/Kinesthetic
  5. Musical/Rhythmic
  6. Intrapersonal
  7. Interpersonal
  8. Naturalist
  9. Existentialist
·        I learned that understanding different learning styles is an important part of effective teaching. There are a number of different ways of exploring learning styles. The article http://www4.ncsu.edu/  from Richard Felder explores the impact of different learning styles on classroom performance. Teachers need to know about miscellaneous  classroom situations in terms of students’ mastery of knowledge, their learning styles and their intelligences.

Final Project
·        I prepared a final project and uploaded it on our class wiki. The project is a plan to teach my class 10 students in writing formal letters particularly application in response for an advertisement. I made a plan to this with technology tools that I had never used before in my classroom. I planned to use powerpoint presentation with a laptop , multimedia projector and a mobile device to teach this topic. My peer partner Waseem gave me his valuable comments on my project. I ‘d like to acknowledge Waseem for his great suggestions to make a final project. I have also posted my powerpoint slides and rubrics for assessing the students’ performance.

Course Evaluations

·         This week, I filled out a course evaluation form that I have received information about how to find the survey and the link in an email from the University of Oregon, AEI Distance Education program. This is my first online training.

Week 8 Experiences

creating a class site

  • Like previous, week 8 was started by reading various resources on the web and to explore them in depth. Our task was set to create a class site or make online exercises. Online classes can be created using Nicenet, blog on www.blogger.com, a class survey using Google docs and website or wiki on Google Sites. Using Nicenet is easier and effective for discussion.
  • I created it and it is obvious that the students where I have been teaching have difficulties using internet. My students sometimes go to cyber café and use face book and other social media.
  • I created a blog for my students especially Grade 8, 9, and 10 to practice and improve in their learning behavior. Its link is http://learnfromremote.blogspot.com/ . It is online exercise not a class. It is targeted to the students who sometimes go to the cyber café. This site is also available in mobile friendly version so that many students can access through their general mobile and android devices. The site provides students with appropriate materials on the basis of their curriculum. It will be a resource for them.

Online tools for enhancing learning

Our teaching and learning system is still traditional due to lack of technology. Recently we are interested in it since it is emerging slowly in developing countries. Technology has made the teacher's life easier and saved their time in doing their work not only faster but also accurately. What I found interesting is Make exercises online to print out http://www.toolsforeducators.com/   that helps us create word search, bingo, crossword puzzles, and board games for language learning.
I was interested in this type of tool. Another was "Lanternfish" to create  flash cards, bingo games, matching, multiple choice exercises to print out. http://bogglesworldesl.com/, Easy Test Maker (paper   tests) , http://www.easytestmaker.com/default.aspx are very helpful sites for the teachers..  These sites generate test and exercises that give relief to the teachers and opportunities to learn for students. Cross word puzzle maker http://www.crosswordpuzzlegames.com/create.html is one the fantastic sites. If we want to make poster online or print, there is http://poster.4teachers.org/teacher/index.php?teacher_id=208311 .These are very useful for me because I  prepare the materials online and use offline.  If these sites are used honestly by a teacher, it won't take a long time to  expertise in the field of teaching. The technology has promoted the learner autonomy.
Some interesting features are Make exercises online to print out, Exercises to use online or offline on a computer or to print out with hot potato game is useful game and software, Web Poster Wizard are designed posters.

ANVILL  and Voiceboards

ANVILL stands for A National Virtual Language Lab, and as its name suggests, it's a modern web-based audio and video.
Voiceboard is a modern technology tool which is accompanied with ANVILL and used for language practice orally. Discussions, audio journals, pronunciation exercise and other forms of oral language are practiced with this tool. This tool was developed By Jeff Magoto who was a guest instructor in our training this week. This tool enables using multimedia communication such as audio and video. I felt some problems using it because of slow Internet .

Project Task

This week, we posted our first draft project  on our class wiki. Now we are working on pair to peer review.
